Bob Rhead will speak at museum lecture event

Wednesday, January 23, 2008

The Mountain Home Historical Society's First Thursday luncheon will be held Feb. 7 at the Mountain Home Museum. The guest speaker will be Bob Rhead.

To allow more time for lunch and the speaker, serving will begin at 11:45 a.m.

Bob was born in Idaho Falls. His dad was a potato farmer in that area. Bob farmed around Rupert and Paul for several years before coming to Mountain Home in 1965. He and his wife, Marlene, raised six children.

Bob came to Mountain Home because he heard they were reclaiming desert land into farmland using water pumped from the Snake River. He was one of the first farmers to develop that land. He started the Bob Rhead Farms on Bruneau Highway, primarily raising potatoes, wheat, and sugar beets. Bob retired from farming in 1982.

Bob's other love was auctioneering. He was the auctioneer for the Basque lamb auction for 17 years before turning the job over to his son, Daryl.
