The physician population in Elmore County has increased by one.

Dr. Allan Jeffery, D.O., has joined the Trinity Mountain Family Practice Physician Group. Dr. Jeffery is board certified in Internal Medicine.

Dr. Jeffery received a B.S. in Psychology, a second major in Spanish and an M.S. in Psychology from Brigham Young University. He attended medical school in Kansas City and obtained his Doctor of Osteopathy in 1999. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine in Johnson City, N.Y.

Dr. Jeffery is fluent in spoken and written Spanish.

Internal medicine is the branch and specialty of medicine concerning the diagnosis and non-surgical treatment of diseases in adults, especially of internal organs. Doctors of internal medicine, also called "internists," are required to have included in their medical schooling and postgraduate training at least three years dedicated to learning how to prevent, diagnose, and treat diseases that affect adults.

"Doctors of internal medicine treat the whole person, not just internal organs," a hospital spokesperson noted.

"I don't laugh at my patients when they come to me and say they are on 23 herbs. My job is to make sure what they are doing works with their health care needs, prevents development of diseases and promotes healthy living." Dr. Jeffery said.

Dr. Jeffery began practicing at Trinity Mountain Family Practice Clinic on Jan. 21.

Anyone wishing to schedule an appointment can call 587-9703.

Dr. Jeffery and his wife have six children, four of which will be moving to Mountain Home at the end of the school year.
