Mountain Home Elks Lodge #2276 held its annual Hoop Shoot Competition this past weekend, Jan. 12.

"It was a wonderful turnout this year with a great group of spectators supporting the individual school winners" said Hoop Shoot Chairman Larry Fincher.

Schools represented this year were North Elementary, Bruneau Elementary, East Elementary, West Elementary, Hacker Middle School, Grand View Elementary and the Base Elementary.

The 10- and 11-year-old boys and girls who competed were: from left, boys division, 1st -- Gabriel Roscoe (Bruneau); 2nd -- Jake Equsquiza (Hacker); 3rd -- Tristan Rathsack (Grand View). Also competing were Conner Carpenter ( East) and Joseph McGuire (North). Girls' division winners were, 1st -- Elizabeth Pendergrass (West); 2nd -- Monica Spinazzola (Hacker); 3rd -- Heather Morrison (Grand View). Also competing were Tyler Edson (East), Madison McCord (North) and Analeise Mills (Bruneau).

"Without the support of the local PE teachers, this program would not have the turnout it does" said Fincher.

"I would like to give special thanks to Elisabeth Blair, Julia Corder and Sammy White for their extra effort this year, but again I could not do it without all of them. This program relies on each school having their own shoot-off so that they may send one boy and girl from each age group forward to the local elks shoot-off."

This year there were approximately 850 children involved from the schools in Mountain Home and the surrounding area. They all have a chance to advance through district, state, regional and national competitions. The three boys and three girls who won their age groups locally will advance to Nampa on Jan. 26 for the district competition.

The 12- and 13-year-old boys and girls who competed were: from left, boys division, 1st -- Adam Johnson (Grand View); 2nd -- Travon Belifante (Hacker). Girls' division winners were, 1st --Jackie Prow (Bruneau); 2nd -- Shelby Delone (Hacker); 3rd -- Danielle Herdia-Race (Grand View).
