Jerome 38

Mtn. Home 26

Mountain Home hosted the top-ranked 4A school in the state Saturday afternoon and battled them tough but came up short to Jerome, 38-26, in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium in Mountain Home.

Both teams went over half the first quarter before scoring.

Jerome went on a 6-0 run in the final minute of the quarter to go up 12-5. The visiting Lady Tigers from Jerome increased their lead to 19-9 at the half.

Both teams warmed up in the third quarter, scoring 13 points to make it 32-22, Jerome, heading into the final quarter.

A basket by Shelby Posey to start the fourth quarter brought Mountain Home within eight, but that would be the closest they would get. Jerome scored six unanswered before Brandie Riggs sank two free throws to make it a 38-26 final.

"We got to feel pretty fortunate to only lose by 12 to right now probably the number one team in the state. I thought we played pretty well defensively. (Aubree) Callen got her 16 points, but I thought those were 16 tough points."

Mountain Home had over 40 turnovers for the game, and Jerome converted them into 29 of their 38 points. Mountain Home forced 27 Jerome turnovers, but their points off turnovers were just 11.

Emily Moranda and Chantell Crane led Mountain Home in scoring with six points apiece, Brandie Riggs added five, Shelby Posey had four, Francesca Hale, three, and Hannah Zamora, two.

The Lady Tigers went into Tuesday's home conference game against Kuna with a 3-4 overall record and 1-1 conference mark.

Mountain Home travels to Columbia High School in Nampa on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. conference contest.
