Danceline earns top honors

Danceline team members took a score of top awards at the Western States Dance Competition.

MHHS "Danceline" dance team and Methods of Movement Studio won first place in all divisions entered at the Western States Dance Competition held Nov. 16 --17' at Century High School in Pocatello.

The Western States Dance Competition is a regional competition and is unusual for the fact that it is sanctioned by the Idaho High School Activities Association and also hosts a private studio competition at the same time.

Teams and individuals for this area that won at the competition included:

MHHS Dance line

Dance Division -- 1st place, High Score, and Judges Choice.

Lyrical Division -- 1st place.

Hip Hop Division -- 1st place and High Score.

Open Division --1st place and High Score.

Winner of Overall High Point High School Team Award.

Solos

Amber Wolfgang -- 1st place and High Point Soloist Overall.

Karli Elliott -- 1st place.

Christine Scholte -- 1st place.

Lindsey Andrews -- 2nd place.

Kelsey Sands -- 3rd place.

Mehods of Movement Studio

Jazz Division -- 1st place.

Lyrical Division -- 1st place, Overall High Score, and Judges Choice.

Modern Division -- 1st place.

Open Division -- 1st place and High Score.

Modern/ Abstract Division -- 1st place.

Methods of Movement Solos and Trio

Amber Wolfgang -- 1st place, lyrical.

Karli Elliott -- 1st place, jazz.

Lindsey Andrews -- 2nd place, lyrical.

Kelsey Sands -- 3rd place, jazz.

Christine Scholte -- 1st place, lyrical.

Amber Wolfgang, Karli Elliott, and Christine Scholte-- 1st place, Lyrical Trio Division.

Susan English directs both MHHS Danceline and the Methods of Movement Dance Teams.

Choreography for the award-winning routines and solos was produced by Mindy Rooney, Ambre Freer, and Katie Crawford.

Team Captains Karli Elliott, Christine Scholte, and Amber Wolfgang, who also choreographed the High School Jazz piece that took 1st place and the Judges Choice award said, "It was nice to gain our confidence at this competition so early in the season, but we are aware that we still need to keep improving by staying focused and working hard.

"We are so proud of our team they were able to pull together and show to us how dedicated and how much this really means to them."
