Boys soccer team loses twice in SIC matches

The Mountain Home Tigers dropped a couple boys conference soccer road games last week, losing at Middleton and Columbia.

Middleton 5

Mtn. Home 1

The Tigers played Middleton to a 1-1 first half tie, but the Vikings scored four times in the second half to win 5-1 last Monday at Middleton.

"It was a great first half. The kids really played well," said Tiger boys soccer coach Paul Walsh.

"Middleton was really, really physical. The guys never really gave up, but they didn't quite know how to handle that, and we left a couple guys open and Middleton capitalized and we gave them a couple goals, but it was definitely a great first half."

Daniel Snelgrow scored Mountain Home's goal at Middleton off an assist by Bryan Walsh.

Columbia 4

Mtn. Home 3

Mountain Home shot out to a 3-0 lead at halftime, but Columbia rallied with four scores in the second half to win 4-3 at Columbia last Wednesday.

"It was really a heartbreaker," said Coach Walsh. "That first half was the best half these guys have played all year.

"We moved a couple things around (in the second half) and tried a couple different things, and probably in hind-sight, that wasn't the time to do it -- a lesson learned by the coaches.

"The kids played hard and never gave up. There was kind of a questionable call right there at the end that gave them the go-ahead goal, but the ref makes the calls and we have to live with them. It was a really hard-fought game, and, like I said, that first half was the best half we've had."

Raif Armstrong scored two goals for Mountain Home, one off an assist by Christian Adamson, one on a penalty kick. Daniel Snelgrow scored Mountain Home's other goal, off an assist by Walter Schmidt.

The Tigers, now 1-3 in conference and 2-3 overall, hosted Bishop Kelly yesterday, and travel to Nampa tomorrow.
