Vote 'yes' on school bond

Wednesday, September 5, 2007

Dear editor:

As a proud parent and educator I am going to vote "YES" on the upcoming school bond.

My daughter attends Hacker Middle School, and last year, her home room had between 34 and 36 students.

If you have not observed the overcrowded conditions at Hacker, try to walk in the hallway during class changes. It is a difficult task.

The passing of the bond would make Hacker a 5th and 6th grade building, as opposed to the 5th-, 6th- and 7th-grade building it is now.

At the present time, East Elementary 3rd and 4th grades have nearly 30 students in each class and West and North aren't too far behind. Our elementary schools are maxed out, and all of these children will go to Hacker.

As a community, let's take a pro-active position to better our students education, as opposed to a reactive position (such as adding more lovely temporary buildings like the one at Hacker).
