School bond is too expensive

Wednesday, August 29, 2007

Dear editor:

The school district had me voting in favor of the $34.5 million dollar bond.

Do we need more classrooms? Sure.

More room for vo-tech? Sure.

I could envision an auditorium where the spectators sat in comfort and could actually hear the performers.

Then I bumped into that gymnasium which, at $12 million, is over a third of the proposed cost.

Educators say our students need more math and science. Forgive me if I fail to see how an indoor track accomplishes that. I honestly don't think it will raise my daughter's reading score.

Public availability will be restricted by scheduled school events, weekends and holidays, just as it is now. Start adding $100 a year to our taxes and watch senior citizens get taxed right out of their homes.

As I said, the school district had me voting in favor. ALMOST!
