Lady Tiger soccer team opens season with win over Jerome

Wednesday, August 22, 2007

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers opened their 2007 soccer season with a 5-0 win over Jerome Saturday at Eastside Park.

Shianne Hawley scored two goals, and Angie Rios, Kristie Sigloh and Anastasia Sanzone also scored goals.

Mountain Home girls soccer coach Carlos Jacome was pleased to get the win.

"We were kind of concerned because we've got a whole bunch of new players. We lost about 15 kids from last year's team, so they had to fill big shoes, but we did very good and we were impressed with what we've seen.

"It was excellent and I really appreciate what the kids did for us. We just need to get to know each other a little better because we have a big mixture of kids here."

The Lady Tigers hosted Emmett in their conference opener yesterday, and travel to Skyview tomorrow. The Lady Tigers are home next week, hosting Middleton on Aug. 28, and Columbia on Aug. 30.

LADY TIGERS JV OPENS WITH 6-1 WIN OVER JEROME

Mountain Home made it a clean sweep Saturday as the JV team also opened with a win, beating Jerome's JV 6-1 at Eastside Park.

Jennifer Juarez scored two goals for Mountain Home, while Claudia Bermensolo, Jasmine Derog, Camille Romero and Alexis Perez also scored goals.

"It was a lot stronger showing than we expected, because we're a young team," said Lady Tiger assistant soccer coach Mike Glover of the win. "We've got a lot of ninth graders on the team, so it's a young team and we didn't exactly know what to expect, and we saw some great things out of them."

"Some pleasant surprises," added Lady Tiger JV coach Teresa Hymer. "We didn't have all of our players playing today, as they didn't have enough practices."

"A few girls, including some of the girls that got goals hadn't ever played before -- it was their first game. Jennifer (Juarez) got two goals in her first game ever!"

The JV girls hosted Emmett yesterday, and travel to Skyview tomorrow afternoon for a 4:30 p.m. game.
