Letter to the Editor

Historical Society thanks all those who participated in pie auction fundraiser

Wednesday, August 22, 2007

Dear editor:

On behalf of the Mountain Home Historical Society, I would like to thank our many friends in the community who joined us for our annual pie social/auction and membership drive last Tuesday night.

It was a special night. The weather was perfect. The bidding was lively. The music took us back a few years, and the pie and ice cream hit the spot!

A special thanks to all the volunteers and Friends of the Museum who prepared, served and auctioned all seventy one pies.

Also, thanks to the Porch Band for the music.

I would like to pass on a compliment. It seems a couple, new to the area, "happened on" to the social.

They told one of our volunteers that they couldn't believe towns did this sort of thing, i.e. free pie and ice cream on the lawn for the community to enjoy. They commented that they had always thought this was what the heart of small town America was like, but didn't know that it ever really happened.

So, again, thank you for helping us not only with your support, but also for helping us show folks that we in Mountain Home still have that small-town America heart!

Marty Beach, president,
