Letter to the Editor

Talk to your kids to be sure they're not part of vandalism

Wednesday, August 15, 2007

Dear editor:

It is a sad reality that on Friday night, Aug. 3, some Mountain Home parents did not know what their children were doing. Maybe it even sadder that they have to hear about it from a stranger and still not realize that it is their children that triggered this letter.

Saturday morning was already a sad day as we prepared to go to graveside services for a loved one but to go out and find eggs smashed all over our vehicle was just cruel. A call to the police revealed there were other victims in town that morning.

I hope these "kids" (I'm sure 15- to 18-year-old males is probably a safe assumption) are just ignorant and maybe a parent can educate them that tossing eggs goes beyond a prank. It is vandalism and that makes it criminal.

A few years ago I did not realize my vehicle had been egged in time and the eggs severely damaged the paint on the roof.

So if you have to stop and ask yourself, could my child have been involved? Then please talk to them and make the community better for us all.

Delmar Smith

(P.S. Quick note. I talked to my corner neighbor across the street and he got "egged" the two nights in a row after "our egging." His car was parked on 15th North and truck parked on 3rd East. Also some folks further north on 3rd East apparently.)
