Glenns Ferry to get high speed internet

Wednesday, June 27, 2007

Qwest Communications International Inc. has announced that high-speed Internet service is now available in Glenns Ferry.

Residents and business owners can learn more during a demonstration at Southside Market, 121 S. Commercial St. in Glenns Ferry on Saturday, June 30. The demonstration will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Glenns Ferry deployment is among 55 Qwest will make in Idaho over the next year as a result of broadband matching grants approved by the legislature. Qwest will match about $3.8 million from the state to make the latest broadband technology available to more than 31,000 Idahoans in rural areas.

"Glenns Ferry has been waiting a long time for the kind of affordable broadband access Qwest is now deploying in our community," said Representative Richard Wills, who represents the area. "It is a huge boost for business owners and residents in rural communities to be able to enjoy the same advanced technology that is available in larger towns," Wills said.

With Qwest High-Speed Internet service, Glenns Ferry residents can experience a high-speed broadband connection that provides them with immediate access to the Internet and speeds up to 89 times faster than dial-up.
