Father of six killed in accident on Father's Day

Wednesday, June 20, 2007

Juan Manuel Morales of Bruneau died in a one-vehicle car accident near Indian Cove in the early morning on Sunday, June 17-- Father's Day.

Morales was traveling eastbound on Highway 78 when his 1997 Dodge Caravan went off the road at a curve and rolled several times approximately 15 miles east of Bruneau in the area of Indian Cove.

Morales was ejected from the vehicle, and it is not known at this time if he was wearing a seat belt. The vehicle then caught fire and burned. Morales was pronounced dead at the scene.

Although Owyhee County Sheriff's officers reported to the accident at approximately 6:20 a.m., they believe the accident may have occurred much earlier in the morning, perhaps between 2 and 3 a.m.

Morales is survived by his wife of Bruneau and six children, aged in their teens and older.

Morale's 18-year old daughter was transported to the local hospital upon receiving notification of her father's death. Her condition is unknown at this time.

The cause of the accident and Morales' death are still under investigation by the Owyhee County Sheriff's Office. It is not known whether alcohol was a factor.
