Area needs community center for all

Wednesday, June 13, 2007

Dear editor:

When I reviewed my tax assessment, I realized that my fee for the Western Elmore County Recreation District had been eliminated, thanks to the circuit breaker program, which assists lower-income individuals.

I happen to believe that Mountain Home needs a recreation center. An indoor pool would be a welcome addition to the community, and the proposed recreational activities would give our young people a place to go for after-school programs or just to spend time.

How great would it be to have an auditorium with decent acoustics where plays and musical performances could be seen and heard without concern about scheduling conflicts with school activities!

I believe that support from entities such as the city and county, groups like the Mountain Home Arts Council, and individual citizens would really help.

Therefore I intend to donate the amount of my fee to the Elmore County Recreation Foundation, a non-profit organization to gather funds for the recreation center.

I hope others will join me.
