Wednesday, June 13, 2007

Time is drawing closer and the committee is hard at work wrapping up the final details for this year's 2nd Annual Daniel Dopps Memorial PRCA Dodge Rodeo .

The rodeo will be held June 22-23 at Optimist Park, beginning at 8 p.m. each night.

Mayor Joe McNeal has signed a proclamation, making June 20-23 "Mountain Home Rodeo Days" and the committee hopes that all Mountain Home businesses will help highlight the event during that time.

This year the rodeo committee has partnered with the Mountain Home Boosters, 266th Range Squadron, American Legion Post 101, and Mountain Home Optimist Youth to provide concessions for the 2nd Annual Daniel Dopps Memorial Rodeo.

The June 22 performance will be dedicated to "Honoring our Armed Forces."

June 23 will be "Tough Enough To Wear Pink," an initiative sponsored by Wrangler as a 2007 fundraising effort for breast cancer research. The Daniel Dopps Memorial Rodeo Committee asks everyone who attends that night to wear a pink shirt, or hat, or any apparel with the color pink, to help support breast cancer awareness on Saturday night.

The rodeo committee has included a drawing for a Montana Silversmith "Tough Enough To Wear Pink" watch and necklace. Tickets will be on sale at the rodeo. All proceeds will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Pre-Rodeo events will start at 7:30 pm (sign-ups start at 7 p.m.), with the family favorite event of the Calf Scramble, where all children under the age of 12 are invited to join in for an opportunity to win some money. For the smaller buckaroos' the rodeo will feature a Goat Tail Untying event.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank the many business and individuals here in Mountain Home and the surrounding areas that have made not only a financial donation to the rodeo, but donations of services and time," said Ramona Dopps, mother of the former MHHS rodeo star who was killed in the arena in his first year of pro competition. "We are always looking for volunteers to help make this rodeo a success. If you are interested, please call Mike Pope at 587-5294 for more information."

Advance tickets for the rodeo are on sale now and available at Mountain Home Auto Ranch, D & B Supply (Mountain Home location only) and the Sinclair Sunset C Store.
