Annual Garden Tour to feature local artists this Saturday

An artist from last years event draws in a garden.

"Art By the Yard," the 11th annual Garden Tour, sponsored by the Mountain Home Arts Council and Beta Zeta Civic Club, will be held this Saturday, June 16.

The tour is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will showcase several local gardens.

Mountain Home Auto Ranch will have autos festooned with balloons parked at each garden.

Tickets are $5 per person and are available in advance at Moxie Java, Village Art Center, the Senior Center, Footnotes Bookstore and at each garden on the day of the tour.

The featured gardens are:

* Freida Jones, 106 Mountain View Dr.;

* Dave and Debbie Sandberg, 435 Samarra Dr.;

* Lloyd and Peggy Hayes, 210 E. 12th North St.;

* Dusty Rose Inn, 815 N. 3rd East St.;

* M. Brett, 240 S. 10th East St.;

* Elena and Servando Vega, 835 S. 10th East St.;

* Henry and Linda Ashby, 180 W. 12th South St.

Local artists from the Visual Arts Committee will be working in selected gardens throughout the afternoon. All of the artists donate their talents to help make the fundraiser a success. The artists who will be appearing in the gardens are: Charlotte Moody-Emerson, Marcus Mashburn, Bill Trueba, Cynthia Henstock, K.C. Duerig and Don Collins.

The "after tour" garden party after the tour will be held at the Basque Park, corner of N. 3rd West and W. 2nd North streets. The event will include an auction of the artwork created in the gardens, refreshments, wine by Carmela Winery and door prizes. The organizers also will have assorted herb gardens available for purchase. Specialty Herb Gardens may be ordered in advance by calling 587-2153 or 587-3379. Sizes range from $10 to $25.

Proceeds from the tour provide local arts grants and scholarships. The 2007 scholarship recipients are Princess Young and Kylie Bermensolo.
