Local Katrina refugee lost during recent storm

Wishkah is a black and white Collie mix that went missing after a wind storm on June 7.

A family that just moved to the Mountain Home area from Nevada are appealing for help from the public in locating their missing family dog, Wishkah.

The two year old black and white Collie mix, who was a Hurricane Katrina refugee as a puppy, went missing from the family home during a storm on June 7.

Owner Doris Sorenson thinks that "Wishie", as she is affectionately known to the family, got spooked by the storm and high winds and wandered off or came to harm due to her unfamiliar surroundings.

The Sorenson family is using the Internet to share photos of Wishie at the "Lost Pets" area of the Flickr website at www.flickr.com/groups/lostpets/ . The web page includes a link to a map that shows the vicinity of SW Division Street off the Old Grandview Road where the dog went missing.

Wishie is described as weighing approximately 35 pounds with black and white speckled stocking legs and a white tip on a fluffy curled tail.

Sorenson said that Wishie is "chipped", embedded with a microchip containing identifying information, and is hopeful that someone will find her soon.

If anyone has seen Wishie, please contact Doris Sorenson at (208) 832-9826 or (775) 291-2249.
