Woman killed in motorhome crash

The 28 foot motorhome was destroyed in the fatal accident.

The left lane of westbound I-84 near Hammett was blocked for almost an hour yesterday evening due to a devastating motorhome accident that claimed the life of a California woman.

Rescue crews were dispatched to the scene of a one vehicle roll-over crash shortly after 6 p.m. on Wednesday where the occupant had been ejected from the vehicle.

June Wellen, 69, of Saint Paul Desert, Calif., was driving eastbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 108 in a 1989 Safari motorhome when she apparently drifted off the left side of the road and overturned down a steep embankment.

Wellen suffered serious injuries in the accident and died at the scene.

The impact of the crash completely demolished the 28-foot motorhome. It was not clear why Wellen lost control of the vehicle.

Her husband, who was not identified, was apparently following the motorhome in a separate vehicle, and observed the accident.

Authorities sent him to Boise to meet Lifeflight, but after it was determined that she had died, the flight was canceled and deputies were dispatched to return him to Mountain Home.
