Police pursue leads in string of recent thefts

Friday, May 18, 2007

A string of recent thefts in the city have prompted the Mountain Home Police Department to seek help from citizens who may witness suspicious activity in their neighborhoods and to offer tips to residents on how to avoid being a victim of theft.

The thefts have occurred in several different areas of the city, according to police spokesman Rick Viola, and detectives are currently pursuing some leads.

Some items reported stolen include yard ornaments like stone statues and even solar lighting fixtures and panels, which take longer to remove from victim yards and homes.

"We want to remind people to secure their garages, keep homes and car doors locked and don't leave valuable items easily accessible to potential thieves," Viola said.

Residents who witness suspicious activity at their neighbors homes should call police dispatch at 587-2100 so an officer can be dispatched to the area immediately.

It is helpful if a witness can share a physical description of suspicious persons and write down the vehicle description and license plate number, if available, and give that information to the responding officer.

If citizens have information to share regarding previous thefts, please contact Lieutenant Julee Bunderson at 587-2101.
