Head on collision kills four on Interstate 84
Two adults and two children were killed in a head-on collision late Tuesday night on Interstate 84 about 10 miles west of Mountain Home.
The accident occurred about 10 p.m. near milepost 82 when Gary Parmenter, 54, of Joseph, Ore., who was traveling westbound in a Ford Excursion, apparently drifted across the center median and collided with an eastbound Ford Windstar van, driven by Darci Woodruff, 31, of Twin Falls.
The impact of the crash caused the van to leave the right shoulder, rolling the vehicle and landing on its side.
The eastbound lanes of I-84 were blocked for several hours as emergency crews worked to extricate and treat the passengers in the van.
Woodruff and her brother, Michael Rodrigues, 21, of Mountain Home, and two of her children, Alexis Rose Woodruff, 9, and Ryker J. Woodruff, 4, died at the scene from injuries sustained in the accident.
Another child, Angelo Woodruff, 8, who was also a passenger in the van, was transported by helicopter to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise with non-life threatening injuries.
A female passenger traveling with Parmenter thought he may have suffered a heart attack because he suddenly slumped over the steering wheel before crossing the median, according to witnesses at the scene.
The Idaho State Police is still investigating the cause of the accident.
Parmenter was transported by Life Flight to Boise in serious condition. The female passenger in the Excursion was not injured in the accident.
