Major roadwork planned on American Legion

Expect American Legion Boulevard to be torn up most of the summer.

The traveling public in Mountain Home can expect delays and lane closures on busy American Legion Blvd. this spring and summer as city crews replace water lines and later, the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) begins a major resurfacing project.

The Public Works Department has already started replacing some aging water lines along the main thoroughfare in the city, which averages 12,000 cars per day, and expects to continue their work into May.

ITD has finalized the design of the project and will put it out for bid in March with an expected start date in May.

The estimated $600,000 highway project will include pulverizing the current surface on what is also known as Hwy. 51 and taking it back down to grade before laying down new pavement, according to ITD.

As part of the project, the state will also stripe the crosswalk markings and improve the curbs to be ADA accessible.

The ITD spokesperson commented that it would be up to the selected contractor to notify the public of any lane closures and possible detours.

It is expected that detours would take a more southern route through the city, going down South 18th E. St. to East 6th S. St. and then over to South 3rd E. St. and up to Jackson St. Specific traffic control plans will be determined by the contractor.

ITD hopes to complete the project by the end of July.
