Boys track team defeats Boise

The Mountain Home Tigers boys track team edged Boise, 74-67, in a dual track meet at Boise last Thursday.

The Tigers had 10 first-place finishes on the day. Victor Werner took first in the 200 and 400 meter dashes, and finished third in the 100.

Scott Riley won the 3,200 meter run and finished second in the 800 and 1,600 meter runs.

Brandon Sloan won the 1,600 meter run, and finished third in the 400.

Eric Smith won the pole vault, Bob Daniels won the long jump, Zacq Hale took first in the triple jump, Kyle Clark won the discus, and Mountain Home also took first in the 4 by 100 meter and 4 by 400 meter relay events.

The 4 by 100 meter relay team was made up of Bob Daniels, Chris Knudson, Zacq Hale and Nick Barrie. The 4 by 400 meter relay team was Brandon Doble, Zacq Hale, Victor Werner and Brandon Sloan.

Brandon Doble finished second in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles and also in the triple jump.

Nick Best finished second in the 3,200 meter run, Joshua Driskell was second in the shot put, Damian Wilder was second in the discus, and the Tigers 4 by 200 meter relay team also finished second. It consisted of Bob Daniels, Chris Knudson, Brandon Doble and Nick Barrie.

Third-place efforts went to Eric Weiss in the 3,200, Matt Ward in the pole vault and Nick Barrie in the long jump.

Boise won the girls competition with Mountain Home, 85-52.

Mountain Home had six first-place efforts on the girls side.

Kaleena Bluemer won both the shot put and discus.

Kacy Barrie won the 100 meter high hurdles, Ashley Robins won the pole vault, and Mountain Home's 4 by 100 meter relay and sprint medley relay teams also finished first. Kacy Barrie, Sherica Holman, Alyssa Saltzgaber and Emily Moranda made up the 4 by 100 meter relay team, and Kacy, Sherica, Emily and Kristie Sigloh made up the medley relay team.

Piper Coffin had a second-place effort in the 300 meter intermediate hurdles, and finished third in the 100 meter high hurdles.

Jesse Cameron finished second in the 1,600 meter run, Enriques Shalamar was second in the pole vault, Kristie Sigloh was second in the long jump, Shantel Crane was second in the shot put, and Mountain Home came in second in both the 4 by 200 meter (Kristie Sigloh, Alexis Howe, Brandie Riggs and Piper Coffin) and 4 by 400 meter (Piper Coffin, Alexis Howe, Sherica Holman and Alyssa Saltzgaber) relays.

Alexis Howe came in third in the 200 meter dash, Heather Capozelle was third in the 1,600, Francesca Hale was third in the 300 meter hurdles, Alyssa Saltzgaber was third in the long jump, Maggie Peterson was third in the shot put, and Chelsea Garner was third in the discus.

"We did well," said Tiger head track coach Rich Urquidi. "The guys got a win, which was nice, and the girls were competitive. We had a lot of PRs and we're still improving, which is what we want to do to get ready for district."

Several Mountain Home athletes competed at the YMCA Invitational at Boise State last Friday and Saturday against some of the best in the state.

Emily Moranda finished third in the girls 300 meter hurdles.

Brandon Sloan was fourth in the boys steeplechase, and Eric Smith came in sixth in the pole vault.

The Tigers go to Twin Falls this Friday for a track meet.
