Golfers find tough going at tourney

The Mountain Home Tiger golfers found the going tough last week in their golf matches.

The Tiger boys golf team golfed against the rest of the SIC 4A teams on April 17 at Purple Sage Golf Course in Caldwell.

Vallivue came in first, shooting a 162 team score, a shot ahead of Emmett. Skyview was two back of Emmett, at 165, Bishop Kelly next at 168, a shot better than Nampa. Kuna came in at 173, Caldwell, 176, and Mountain Home, 178.

Leon Vasquez of Skyview was medalist, shooting a 38. Ross Conte led Mountain Home with a 42, which tied him for 11th. Nick Trueba and Monte Rinebold both shot 45, and Eric Gardzina and Steven Bitrick came in with a 46.

The SIC 4A girls played Purple Sage on April 18, with four of the eight teams not having full teams there. The Caldwell girls won, shooting 175. Bishop Kelly was second with a 193, followed by Skyview at 214 and Mountain Home, 261.

Trish Gibbens of Caldwell was medalist, shooting a 41. Shayla Streeter topped Mountain Home, shooting a 62, which placed her 20th. Kimi Hamaishi shot a 64, Carly Vaughn came in with a 67, and Shantell Beasley carded a 68.

The Tiger boys hosted the Mountain Home Invitational last Thursday at Desert Canyon Golf course and finished seventh out of seven teams. Eagle won the action, shooting a 299 team total. Capital was second at 316, followed by Boise, 320, Borah, 322, Emmett, 326, Caldwell, 331, and Mountain Home, 345.

Nick Trueba and Eric Gardzina led the Tigers over the 18 holes, both shooting 84. Steven Bitrick came in with an 88, a shot ahead of Monte Rinebold's 89, and Ross Conte carded a 95.

The Tiger boys and girls will be at Emmett today (Wednesday) for a conference golf tourney.
