The Easter Snow Bunny arrived for egg hunt

Wednesday, April 19, 2006
Considering the weather, a good crowd of kids showed up to race for the eggs in Carl Miller Park.

The Easter Bunny and the Snow Bunny both showed up in Carl Miller Park Sunday, along with nearly 100 children who braved the cold, wet conditions to seek out 140 dozen gaily colored eggs hidden in the park.

The annual community Easter Egg hunt, sponsored by the Masonic group Sabre Lodge No. 7, saw light snow actually falling during the hunt.

Children, some dressed in winter coats and others in just their Easter church outfits, stood under umbrellas held by their parents as they qued up at the start line. As Sabre Lodge members counted down, "...three, two, one, GO!" the children took off in a scene reminiscent of the Oklahoma Land Rush. In less than two minutes every egg in the park had been collected into their Easter baskets.

While the turnout for the regular hunt was solid, if down somewhat from years when it didn't snow on Easter, the turnout for the "toddlers" section of the hunt, held on the adjacent East Elementary playground, was sparse as best.

This year, for the first time, a special hunt also was offered for handicapped children.
