Lady Tiger baseball season opens

Wednesday, March 8, 2006

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers have a busy weekend of softball planned, and besides Eagle, Centennial and Wood River, the Lady Tigers may also have to battle the weather, as rain and snow is forecast during that time.

Weather scrapped a jamboree they were supposed to go to last Saturday in Caldwell.

Mountain Home softball coach Joy Memmelaar, in her 15th season as head coach of the Lady Tigers, is looking forward to this season.

"We had a good turnout. We had over 30 girls come out, so it was nice to see some new faces and a lot more girls interested in playing."

Coach Memmelaar has seven girls back from last year's squad, which finished 11-13 overall.

"We had a good core of kids back to build on, and had a good group of JV players to choose from to bring on the varsity, so it looks pretty good.

On the minds of Memmelaar and the returning players from last year are the two extra-inning losses to Emmett (4-3 in 9 innings) and Vallivue (3-2 in 8 innings) that put the Lady Tigers out of the district tournament.

"We talked a little bit about it the other day when we didn't have the jamboree, and there's still a little bit of bad taste in their mouth there. So that's a good thing. They know that they played well, and played hard, so they kind of know what they need to do to get beyond that."

The Lady Tigers open tomorrow (Thursday) at Eagle, and then are home for a single game against Centennial on Friday, and have a doubleheader scheduled with Wood River at Mountain Home on Saturday. The Eagle and Centennial games start at 4:30 p.m. and the doubleheader with Wood River is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
