Lady Tigers continue to roll to victories

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers continue to be the surprise of the SIC 4A, muzzling the Lady Huskies from Emmett last Tuesday, 53-38 in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium in Mountain Home.

Just three nights removed from their stunning upset win over Bishop Kelly, the Lady Tigers were out to show the world -- and specifically Emmett -- that Saturday night's win was no fluke.

Mountain Home shot out to a 12-0 lead, and led 18-6 after a quarter. Any time Emmett would make a rally, the Lady Tigers would answer and held them at bay.

"We started out the game and Marquina (Gilliam) came out and hit three three-points, and Ali (Hillman) hit an inside basket and all of a sudden we were up 12-0 early, and they never really recovered from that," said Mountain Home Lady Tiger coach Brian English.

"They made a run in the second quarter to get back into it, but our girls answered the run right back, and from that moment on, we led the whole ball game."

Marquina Gilliam put on a shooting against Emmett, hitting six of eight shots form the field, including four of four three-pointers, and ended the night with 21 points. Ali Hillman had a season-high 15 points and brought down 19 rebounds. Erica Stanton added seven points, Jessica Egusquiza scored five, Lisa Kellerman, three, and Teysena Chatman added two points.

The Lady Tigers entered the holiday break 5-7 overall, and 4-2 in league play.

"We're tied for second place, so that's kind of a nice feeling. For once we're not at the bottom of the league," said Coach English.

The Lady Tigers complete the first round of their conference schedule when they host Vallivue on Jan. 4.
