Tiger wrestlers fall to Eagles

Wednesday, December 28, 2005

The Mountain Home Tiger wrestling team shot out to an early 17-3 lead over the Eagles at Capital last Wednesday night, but lost eight of the last 10 matches, six by pin.

Chris Knudson, Charles Davidson and Calvin Vivier picked up the Tigers' only pins, Knudson at 171 pounds, Davidson at 215, and Vivier at 135. Tyson Sessions won by technical fall (22-6), and Nico Pinque had Mountain Home's other win, an 8-7 decision.

Ty Kleffner (140) lost a tough 8-7 decision, Kori Andrews (160) lost a 10-8 decision, and Kaeo Doronio (119) lost an 11-6 decision.

T. J. Billinger (103), Nick Best (112), Travis Goldsby (125), Robby Bergh (145), Tanner Carpenter (152) and Blake Pharis (275) all lost by pin.

"We went over there feeling like we had an opportunity to win," said Tiger wrestling coach Lynn Knudson. "We switched some weight classes and that didn't quite work either, but for the most part, I feel pretty good about the way we wrestled and how we're kind of improving as the year goes on.

"It didn't quite work out the way I wanted it to, but we did see some improvement from a few wrestlers."

Coach Knudson was also pleased with his wrestlers that wrestled in the JV competition. Kamron Spaulding (130), Joe Withers (130), Colby Lord (160), Luke Loomis (171), Reece Hunter (160), Lucas Greer (275), Matt Ward (171) and Tyler Charters (275) all own by pin.

The Tigers are off during the Holidays, returning to action Jan. 4 in a home conference dual against Vallivue.
