Tigers to open hoops season against Braves

The Mountain Home Tigers open their boys basketball season Saturday night at Boise High against the Braves.

As a result of graduation and moves, Tiger basketball coach Tony Kerfoot has just two starters coming back from last year's squad.

They are 6' 0" senior guard Jarrod Roberson, and 6' 5" senior center Travis Eikeness.

Roberson led the Tigers in scoring last year as a junior, scoring 258 points (11.7 points per game).

Eikeness averaged around three points per game, and was third on the team in rebounds with 82.

Despite having just two players returning, Coach Kerfoot likes the team chemistry that this year's squad has had during practice.

"I don't know where we're at right now, but I know we're getting better every day that we're working. Last summer we were missing a couple of guys and we struggled most of the summertime, and I think that kind of lit a little fire and some guys kind of have a desire to improve and they've been working hard ever since then to get better and improve their skills, and I think it's really shown."

Mountain Home will be out to improve upon last year's 3-19 effort, opening this Saturday night at Boise High against the Boise Braves.

"I don't know a whole lot about them," said Kerfoot. "I know they have a new coach. I think I saw them at one tournament this summer, and they didn't look overly impressive, but summer time you never know who has all their people there and everything else, so that's not a real good indication. Hopefully, they'll play before we play and I'll have a chance to go see them."

The Tigers play their first home game on Dec. 7 against Jerome.
