Thursday, October 27, 2005

The Mountain Home Tigers dropped their sixth straight football game Friday night, losing to the Kuna Kavemen, 50-27 at Kuna.

The Kavemen used the legs of Mike Fisette and the arm of Luke Durrant to pull away from the Tigers for the win.

Fisette rushed the ball 29 times for 170 yards and two touchdowns, and Durrant completed 13 of 21 passes for 266 yards and four touchdowns.

Kuna got on the scoreboard first, going 679 yards in nine plays, Luke Durrant taking it the final 21 yards for the score to take a 6-0 lead with 6:52 left in the first quarter.

Josh Reynolds' 43-yard kickoff return set the Tigers up on the Kuna 37-yard line. Four plays later, Nick Barrie scored on a 28-yard pass from Bob Daniels. Kyle Clark missed a rare PAT, but the Tigers had tied it at 6-6, with 5:07 still left in the first quarter.

On Kuna's next possession Kaveman receiver Kirk Miller extended himself to haul in a pass from Luke Durrant and raced 37 yards for a score. The two-point conversion failed, but the Kavemen had regained the lead, 12-6, with 3:04 left in the first period.

A 41-yard kickoff return by Josh Reynolds had the Tigers starting their next series at the Kuna 38. Bob Daniels passed to Zacq Hale for a 37-yard pass down to the one-yard line. Daniels took it on from there, and with Kyle Clark's PAT, Mountain Home led, 13-12, with 2:40 left in the first quarter.

The Kavemen again mixed the pass and the run and moved the ball 59 yards in nine plays, Luke Durrant finding Devin Thorton in the end zone for a seven-yard score. Durrant's pass for the two-point conversion failed, but the Kavemen had the lead back, 18-13, with 11:12 left in the half. It was a lead they would not give up the rest of the night.

Mountain Home moved the ball from their 48 down to the Kaveman 23-yard-line, and on fourth down, faked a field goal, and Kori Andrews' pass was picked off by Kirk Miller at the Kuna 25.

The Kavemen then went 75 yards in 11 plays, Luke Durrant hooking up with Wayne Harris on a 26-yard score, and led 24-13 going into the locker room at halftime.

Kuna took the ball to start the second half, but their drive stalled at the Tiger 40-yard line, and they were forced to punt -- their only punt of the night.

Mountain Home then moved the ball 75 yards in five plays, Nick Barrie scoring from 28 yards out. The Tigers went for two and failed, but cut the margin to 24-19, with 6:52 left in the third quarter.

A 47-yard pass from Luke Durrant to Devin Thorton down to the Tiger three-yard line helped set up Kuna's next score, a three-yard run by Justin Mashburn that extended the Kaveman lead to 30-19.

Drew Hummel picked off a Bob Daniels pass to thwart the Tigers' next drive at the Kuna 13-yard line. Seven plays later, Luke Durrant connected with Nico Lopez on a 58-yard scoring strike to increase their lead to 36-19.

Mountain Home fumbled the ball away on their own 40 on their next possession, and the Kavemen scored again in five plays, Mike Fisette taking it in from two yards out. With the PAT, it was 43-19, with 8:44 left in the ball game.

The Tigers came back strong, going 65 yards in six plays, Georgio Sutton taking it the final 17 yards for the score. Bob Daniels ran in the two-point conversion to cut the Kuna lead to 43-27, with 6:35 left.

The on-side kick attempt failed, and Kuna recovered the ball on their 48, and, as they did on eight of 10 possessions on the night, the Kavemen scored, Mike Fisette taking it in from a yard out and Kuna increased their lead to 50-27, with 2:47 left in the game.

Mountain Home's final drive was ended by another pass interception, and the Kavemen ran out the clock for a 50-27 victory.

"We did some good things both offensively and defensively, but we had a lot of missed tackles," said Tiger head football coach Brian Floyd. What really killed us was their third-down conversions. They made a lot of first downs on like third and eight or third and 10. We weren't able to stop them. They only punted once the whole game."

Kuna converted on six of 11 third down conversions, and were two for two on fourth down conversions, both for touchdowns.

They were also 16 for 29 on second down conversions. Mountain Home was just two of eight on third down conversions and converted one of three fourth down conversions.

The Kavemen rushed for 240 yards and passed for 266 for 506 total yards.

Mountain Home rushed for 201 yards. Georgio Sutton carried nine times for 82 yards and a score. Nick Barrie rushed the ball three times for 49 yards and a score. Bob Daniels rushed 10 times for 44 yards and a touchdown, and Chris Knudson had 31 yards on six rushes.

Daniels completed six of 16 passes for 97 yards and a touchdown. He had two passes picked off.

Nick Barrie caught three passes for 51 yards and a touchdown, Dave Anderson had two receptions for seven yards, and Zacq Hale caught one for 37 yards.

The Tigers close out their season Friday night at Tiger Field against the Caldwell Cougars.
