Playing soccer for three days in a row took its tally on the Mountain Home Tigers as they went out of the District III 4A Boys Soccer Tournament after three matches and only one victory.

Mountain Home 5 (S.O)

The Mountain Home Tigers opened the District III 4A Boys Soccer Tournament at Vallivue with a heartbreaking loss to Kuna last Monday.

After the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie, and two overtimes still could not settle it, they went to a shootout, with each team having five penalty kicks at the goal. Kuna won the shoot out, 6-5.

"That was a battle!" said Tiger boys soccer coach Andrew Kerr of the Kuna match. "That was our best game all year. they didn't give up, no matter what, even if the referee made an iffy call, they kept battling and played for the whistle. At the end we gave up a weak goal, we'll say, but the kids didn't quit though, they kept plugging away. It was just unfortunate they lost that one because they gave their all."

Caldwell 1

The Tigers bounced back from their shootout loss to Kuna by ousting Caldwell from the district tourney, 4-1.

Marcos Ortiz recorded a "hat trick," with three goals, and also recorded an assist on a goal by Aaron Swartz.

Nick Gula had 11 saves on goal as goalkeeper for the Tigers.

"It was a very tight game in the first half, but the guys came out and pulled away in the second half and played really well," said Coach Kerr.

Emmett Huskies 7

Mountain Home 2

The Tigers came back last Wednesday and played Emmett strong for a half, trailing just 1-0 at halftime. Emmett pulled away in the second half to oust the Tigers, 7-2.

"We were pretty much right there with them the whole way the first half, but then in the second half, the tank just wasn't full any more and they just couldn't hang with them, but they gave it all they could," said Coach Kerr.

Aaron Swartz and Marcos Ortiz scored the Mountain Home goals against Emmett.

The Tigers finished the season 7-11-2 overall.
