Lady Tigers fall to Skyview

Wednesday, October 5, 2005

The Lady Hawks from Skyview are unbeaten in SIC 4A conference volleyball. Their efforts against Mountain Home last Tuesday night in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium did little to dispel the fact they are considered the best in the conference if not the state, taking three quick games from the Lady Tigers.

Mountain Home took a brief 1-0 lead in game one before Skyview shot out to a lead, winning the first game, 25-13. Skyview rolled in game two, winning 25-6, and won game three, 25-8.

Lady Tiger volleyball coach Sarah DeVore was disappointed in her team's effort against Skyview.

"It's at the point of the season where the girls are a little hard on themselves. Obviously, our record's not where we want it to be, but that doesn't indicate the talent that this team has, although tonight certainly didn't show that.

"Skyview's a great team, but I think we can compete with teams like Skyview, and I just don't know that the whole team was there tonight. Our intensity has slowed down a little bit.

"We're at a point where it's not just about fighting in the game, but it's about fighting for the season and where we want to end up, how we want the end of our season to look. If this is an indication of it, it's showing me that the intensity and the belief that they had at the beginning has slowed up, and I don't believe that is going to be the case at the end of the season.

"These girls are fighters, they want to do well, and they're a talented group. So, when we get over this hump, I think we'll keep climbing."

The Lady Tigers were successful on 23 of 28 serves on the night for 82 percent. Skyview made good on 72 of 75 serves for 96 percent.

Brandie Riggs went five-for-five on serves, and had seven assists. Sammy Dodge had four kills and two blocks, Dani Dean was six-for-six on serves, had three service points, three kills and two blocks, and Ali Hillman had two aces.

Mountain Home hosted Caldwell in a doubleheader last (Tuesday) night in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium. They host Vallivue tomorrow (Thursday) night for Senior Night.

The Lady Tigers close out their regular season schedule next week on the road at Bishop Kelly on Tuesday night and at Nampa on Thursday night.

The District III 4A volleyball tournament starts Oct. 17 at Skyview.
