Oh, so close! The Mountain Home Lady Tigers continue to show improvement as they seek that first win of the season, which thus far has eluded them.

The Lady Tigers hosted the Lady Kavemen from Kuna in SIC 4A conference volleyball last Tuesday night in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium.

Mountain Home had opened their season at Kuna, losing in three straight games. Tuesday night's match was another 3-0 win for Kuna, but it did not come easy, as the Lady Tigers battled all the way.

In the first game, Mountain Home battled back from a 0-2 deficit to take a 10-6 lead, only to see Kuna catch them at 11-11, and the lead went back and forth all game long, with the Lady Tigers going up 25-24, 26-25, and 27-26, serving with a chance to win, but unable to get the right bounce, losing 27-29, in a game that had 13 ties.

Game two saw the Lady Tigers lose early before falling behind by as many as 10, 12-22, and losing 17-25.

Game three had four ties, but none after 4-4, as Kuna got up by two, and managed to gradually build it to 25-20, to win the match in three games.

"Again, we are seeing the fight, and I'm proud of that," said Lady Tiger volleyball coach Sarah DeVore. "We'll keep working on improving and keep doing the little things to improve. The season is far from over, and I've got to remind the girls of that."

The Lady Tigers have yet to take the first game of a match, and Coach DeVore thinks that is the key to picking up a win. It looked like that first game win was going to come Tuesday night against Kuna.

"Definitely! We were there, and I thought we were going to take that one! A few things go our way and walking away with our first win and that changes the whole look of the ball game. We're getting there.

"Ali Hillman had a great game, and Brandie Riggs was all over the place. They're coming together, they're working as a team. Who knows when we'll peak, but we're working on it."

Dani Dean had six service points on 12 of 13 service attempts and two service aces. She also had 10 kills, three blocks and two digs. Brandie Riggs was 13 of 14 serving, with seven service points and two aces. She also had 19 assists. Ali Hillman was 11 for 13 serving, scored seven points and had three aces.

The Lady Tigers gave Emmett a battle to remember last Thursday night at Emmett, losing a tough, close match in four games.

The Lady Tigers dropped the first game, 19-25, and battled tough the second game before losing, 23-25. They won game three, 25-20, but came up short in the fourth game, 21-25, to lose the match, three games to one.

The Lady Tigers hosted Skyview last (Tuesday) night, and return to action Oct. 4, when they host Caldwell for two matches starting at 5 p.m.
