Sloan lead cross-country effort

Brandon Sloan led the Mountain Home Tiger cross country team in races last week at Wood River and Vale, Ore.

Sloan finished 11th at the Wood River Invitational last Thursday, and came in third at the Oregon Trail Invitational at Vale on Saturday.

Sloan ran an 18:40 at Wood River, which put him 11th individually. Scott Riley was next with a 21:01. Nico Pinque came in at 25:11, followed by Victor Werner, 25:34, and Wes Haws, 30:21.

Jesse Cameron once again led the girls at Wood River, coming in at 28:20, just ahead of Kelcie Robinson's 28:23. Piper Coffin, Ariel Strasser, Sarah Hyde and Courtney Ashford all set new personal bests at Wood River.

Brandon Sloan ran an 18:03 at the Oregon Trail meet in Vale, which was third overall. Scott Riley ran a 19:22, which placed him eighth. Nico Pinque had a new personal best time of 23:05, which placed him 25th, and Wes Haws came in at 28:41, which placed him 44th.

In the girls meet at Vale, Kelcie Robinson led the Mountain Home girls with a time of 25:48, which placed her 21st, and was a new personal best. Jesse Cameron had an new personal best time of 26:16, which placed her 26th. Piper Coffin, Ariel Strasser, Karen Kohtz, Courtney Ashford and Sarah Hyde all had new personal bests at Vale.

"Brandon ran well last week," said Tiger cross country coach Doug Root. We didn't have a full boys team at Vale, but our girls finished fourth out of six teams at the Oregon Trail meet. The girls are showing some major improvements. A lot of them are improving two to three minutes a week, so they're looking good."

Mountain Home travels to Idaho Falls for the Tiger-Griz Invitational Cross Country Meet this Friday.
