Kids enjoy free fishing day

Pictured above, Tawnie Lord, 8, daughter of Preston and Linda Lord, shows off the string of trout she reeled in during the day.

Saturday was Free Fishing Day in Idaho, and at Legacy Park in Mountain Home the Idaho Department of Fish and Game had stocked the pond with over 500 trout. Approximately 300 people showed up to try and snag the trout (which are the only fish in the pond that can be taken -- all others are catch and release). Fish and Game reservists were on hand to help novice anglers, and Wal-Mart provided poles and lures for those who needed them. Some trout still remain in the pond, but fishing is restricted to those 13 and younger.

In addition to the events at Legacy Park, American Legion Post 101 sponsored a kid's fishing day at C.J. Strike Reservoir.
