Tiger matmen fall to Borah

Wednesday, December 15, 2004

The Mountain Home Tigers opened their 2004-2005 wrestling season at Borah last Friday night, where they came up on the short end of a 36-26 non-conference dual with the Borah Lions.

The Tigers picked up wins in six of the 14 matches.

Chris Knudson won by pin at 160 pounds. Nico Hardman won by forfeit at 103 pounds. James Greenfield won by a 17-5 major decision at 140 pounds. Kole Spaulding also won an 11-3 major decision at 171 pounds. Kyle Hickerson won a 7-0 decision at 125 pounds, and Kori Andrews eked out an 11-10 decision at 152 pounds.

For the first match of the season, Tiger wrestling coach Lynn Knudson saw some bright spots in the loss.

"I went into the match feeling really good, and I wasn't disappointed with how our freshmen wrestled. I was a little disappointed with how our sophomores and juniors wrestled. I think we just need to get back to the basics and we can do a lot of improving and do some of the basic things that we didn't do during that match, and one of those basic things was giving up pins, and we gave up five that night, so we need to improve on that."

The Tigers hosted Nampa and Timberline for a tri-match last (Tuesday) night, and go to Idaho Falls Friday and Saturday for the Bonneville Duals.

"That's always a very good tournament for us and it also kind of gets us ready for the rest of the year and help us improve ourselves," said Coach Knudson of the Bonneville Duals. "We're looking forward to it, and hopefully we can get everybody healthy and compete well."
