Lady Tigers fall to Skyview 71-22

Wednesday, December 1, 2004

The Skyview Lady Hawks were picked to finish near the top of the SIC 4A conference, and they left no doubt why last Tuesday night, when they rolled to a 71-22 win over the Mountain Home Lady Tigers in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium in Mountain Home.

The Lady Hawks came out in a full court press, and forced 13 Mountain Home turnovers on their way to a 22-2 first quarter lead.

They pulled off the press in the second period, but the Mountain Home turnovers kept coming -- they had 23 at halftime, with Skyview getting 24 points off the Lady Tiger errors for a 39-9 lead at the half.

Skyview stretched their lead to 53-14 after three, and rolled to a 71-22 final over the Lady Tigers.

"They took it to us," said Mountain Home Lady Tiger basketball coach Karen Kohring after the game.

"Skyview is a very aggressive team and our guards were not handling the pressure very well. You've got to hand it to Skyview, they had a good team effort tonight.

"You can't spot a team 20 points like we did in the first quarter. The girls have to bounce back. They took it to us tonight, and we feel it, and we don't like that feeling. We're trying to tell the girls we don't like the feeling, and we can't run from it. We've just got to go attack everything that we need to work on and work harder."

Paula Doerr led the Lady Tigers with six points. Kaleena Bluemer and Katie Roelofs each scored four points. Christen McLee, a freshman who split time between the JV and varsity, scored her first three varsity points. Nicole Roelofs also scored three points, and Jessica Egusquiza added two.

Mountain Home hit on nine of 32 field goals for 28 percent, missing all three three-point attempts. They were only four of 11 (36 percent) from the free-throw line.

Skyview put the ball in the air 67 times, connecting on 26 of them for 39 percent, including five of 15 treys (33 percent). They hit 14 of 24 (58 percent) from the charity stripe.

Mountain Home did out rebound the Lady Hawks, 39-38, with Kaleena Bluemer and Christen McLee both bringing down five rebounds.

The Lady Tigers return to action tonight (Wednesday) at Jerome in non-conference action. Coach Kohring hopes to give Jerome a battle tonight.

"We're going to make it a good game. There's some things that we've been working on as far as confidence builders. Jerome won't be near as fast paced as these games we've had, so we expect it to be a competitive game and we need to to come out on the offensive end and make it a game."

The Lady Tigers return to SIC 4A conference action Friday night at Kuna.
