Lady Tigers go two and out at district

Wednesday, October 27, 2004

The volleyball season came to a close for the Mountain Home Lady Tigers last week. Any hopes of breaking out of their hard luck regular season funk, were batted down by Skyview and Kuna, ending the Lady Tigers season at the District III 4A Volleyball Tournament at Nampa High School.

Skyview 25, 25, 25

Mountain Home 14. 16. 11

The Lady Tigers opened the tournament last Monday night against top-seeded Skyview, who had gone unbeaten in league play.

Mountain Home fell behind in each game, and was unable to get any consistency going to mount any kind of comeback.

"We didn't play our best ball, but we didn't play our worst ball," said Mountain Home volleyball coach Heather Cherry.

"Skyview was not at the top of their game, but they were keying on Jordana (Price) big time. They were really going up and blocking her, and she eventually had to make some adjustments and tip the ball into the hole, and she did that very well, and they adjusted to that, so we were really having to juggle things around. Nobody missed a serve, though. We were 100 percent on our serves."

Jordana Price led the Lady Tigers with 11 kills. Dani Dean had three blocks. Paula Barrientos had 11 assists, one kill and one block.

Kuna 25, 25, 25

Mountain Home 17, 12, 12

The Skyview loss put the Lady Tigers in a loser out match against Kuna last Tuesday. Kuna had lost their first round match to Bishop Kelly.

Mountain Home stayed close first game, but were unable to keep any consistency going in the second and third games.

"It was not a very exciting match," said Coach Cherry of the Kuna match. "We missed a lot of serves and made a lot of mistakes, but there were times when the girls rallied and volleyed for quite a while, but didn't score any points off it. It wasn't our best match. I definitely think our best match was last Thursday night at home against Nampa."

Paula Barrientos had nine assists and a block. Dani Dean had five kills. Jordana Price had four kills and six blocks, and Amanda Bitterman had a block.

The season now comes to a close for the Lady Tigers. All-conference and other awards will be announced next week.
