Lindsey Englehardt was crowned Homecoming Queen Friday, as her fatther, Patrick, looked on.

Lindsey Englehardt, the daughter of Beverly and Patrick Englehardt, was crowned Homecoming Queen during ceremonies held at halftime of Friday's homecoming game against Jerome.

She was joined on stage during the ceremonies by fellow contestants Amanda Bitterman, Stephanie Spagnolo, and Elaine Matson. All of the candidates were accompanied by their fathers as they waited for the announcement of who would be crowned queen.

Englehardt participates in volleyball, track, Spanish Club, Spirit Club and is a member of the Student Council.

Earlier in the day, at the Homecoming Assembly, Zachary Anderson, the son of Toby and Julia Anderson, was crowned as Homecoming King. Anderson participates in baseball and football. Also nominated for king were Brock Zamora, Chad Hawkley and Kole Spaulding.

At the homecoming dance on Saturday night, the rest of the Homecoming Court was announced. Selected as prince and princess from the junior class were Jarom Groat and Teysena Chatman. The sophomore class Duke and Duchess were Kyle Hall and Samantha Morrison.

The selection of the court capped a week of activities at Mountain Home High School designed to raise school spirit and provide some competition between the classes.

Overall, the week went smoothly, said Principal Barry Cahill. In fact, the only "incident" of the week was his fault, when he handed out shaving cream to students on Monday, part of several cases of promotional products that are commonly sent to the schools. Not all the shaving cream was used for shaving. "Obviously, it wasn't the wisest choice I ever made," he ruefully admitted.

But there were not major incidents during the week and only a few small glitches.

"We had great student participation," in the week's activities, Cahill said with pride. "A lot of the kids took part in the dress-up days and the noon-time activities."

Even the homecoming game, which was competing with the nationally televised BSU-BYU game, was well attended, with crowds filling the stands for the game that saw the Tigers beat Jerome 52-16 (see story page B-1). The cheerleaders, who did pushups equal to the Tiger score each time Mountain Home scored, were exhausted by game's end.

The week began last Monday with students sporting "crazy" hair styles, engaging in a pie-eating contest at noon, and enjoying the Macho Man volleyball game that evening, which was won by the junior boys.

Tuesday students dressed up in the jerseys of their favorite sports teams and Wednesday they wore beach outfits.

Wednesday night the highly popular Powder Puff Football Game was held, with the senior girls handily defeating the junior girls 16-6.

Thursday, students dressed up as their favorite celebrity.

Friday was the Homecoming Assembly, in which classes compete in a variety of competitions and perform class skits.

Spirit sticks, for individual demonstration of school spirit during the week, were won by Bridget Snyder for the seniors, Amanda McAlpin for the juniors, and Chase Bitterman and Tyson Sessions for the sophomores.

The seniors won all of the competitions, for window decorations, hallway decoration, the pep jug for cheers during the assembly, and were named the overall spirit winners.

Following the assembly, a lengthy parade of floats wound its way through downtown for the annual homecoming parade, but crowds were sparse. The largest crowd typically was at Hacker Middle School, where students had traditionally been let out to view the parade, but they were held inside during the parade due to state-mandated tests.
