Hansen wins gold at Magic Valley tourney

Mountain Home finished fourth in the boys competition, and fifth in the girls at the Magic Valley Invitational track and field meet in Twin Falls last Thursday.

The host Bruins from Twin Falls won the boys competition, rolling up 189 points to far outdistance second place Kuna's 85. Jerome was third with 80, just ahead of Mountain Home's 77. Burley had 59 points, and Minico, 47.

Caom Hansen was Mountain Home's only winner on the day, capturing both the shot put and discus throws.

The Tiger four by 200 meter relay team was Mountain Home's only second place finish. Anthony Pomerlee, Matt Maurer, Billy O'Brien and Georgio Sutton made up that relay.

Marcos Santistevan had third place efforts in both the long jump and triple jump. Cory Bernaiche finished third in the 300 meter hurdles, and was fifth in the 110 high hurdles. Anthony Pomerlee finished third in the 100 and fourth in the 200 meter dash. Brandon Sloan came in third in the 3200 meter run, and the Tiger medley relay team finished third. Billy O'Brien, Matt Maurer, Marcos Santistevan and Lawrence Johnson make up the medley relay team.

Billy O'Brien came in fourth in the 100 meter dash, and the Tigers four by 100 meter relay, which consists of the same four as the four by 200 relay, was fourth.

The Tigers' four by 400 meter relay team of Marcos Santistevan, Cory Bernaiche, Georgio Sutton and Victor Werner finished fifth.

Lee Pierce was sixth in the 3200 meter run, and Lawrence Johnson was sixth in the 800.

Jerome won the girls competition, edging Twin Falls 158-155. Kuna was a distant third with 107, followed by Burley with 80, Mountain Home with 37, and Minico with 11.

Mykel Barrie finished second in the 100 meter hurdles, while her younger sister Kacy was third in the 100 meter hurdles.

Katie Roelofs was third in the 400 meter dash, Tiffany Robins was fourth in the pole vault, and Mountain Home's four by 200 and four by 400 meter relay teams all finished fourth. Mykel Barrie, Lauren Kisner, Erica Stanton and Kacy Barrie run the four by 200 meter relay, while Katie Roelofs, Sophie Kettner, Mykel Barrie and Lindsey Engelhardt run the four by 400 meter relay.

The Lady Tigers finished fifth in both the four by 100 meter relay and medley relays. Kacy Barrie, Lauren Kisner, Erica Stanton and Sidnei Banks ran the four by 100 meter relay, while the medley relay was made up of Sidnei Banks, Alyssa Saltzgaber, Jessica Goodwin and Sophie Kettner.

Mountain Home also had a sixth place effort by Lauren Kisner in the 100 meter dash.

The District III 4A Track and Field Championships are tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday at Bishop Kelly.
