In a busy week of baseball, the Mountain Home Tigers picked up one win in three games last week, a one-hit pitching effort by Michael Hobgood against Emmett.

Defensive errors by Mountain Home helped the Bishop Kelly Knights to an 11-4 SIC 4A conference win over the Tigers last Tuesday night at Bishop Kelly.

The Tigers opened up the game like they left off Saturday, getting four hits and scoring three runs in the first inning off Knights' starter T.J. Macy.

David Wise and David Pacheco both walked, and a single by Brett Young loaded the bases. Wise scored from third on a wild pitch, the runners moving up a base. Alan Lawler and Jacob Dunn had back-to-back singles that scored Pacheco and Young.

Things looked good in the bottom of the first, as Tiger starter Andrew Grodi set the Knights down in order.

Bishop Kelly got on the scoreboard in the second, getting a couple timely hits to go with some Tiger errors, as they cut Mountain Home's lead to 3-2.

Brett Young tripled to lead off the top of the third, with Young coming in later to make it 4-2 Mountain Home.

The Knights sent nine batters to the plate in their third, touching Andrew Grodi for five runs on five hits, including two triples.

Brian Fields replaced Grodi on the mound for the Tigers in the fourth, and Bishop Kelly took advantage of two hits, two errors and two walks to plate four more runs to push their lead to 11-4.

Fields shut out the Knights the rest of the way, but Mountain Home was not able to score either.

Tiger baseball coach Travis DeVore was disappointed to see his team lose the lead, and eventually the ball game.

"We looked like we did earlier in the season when we'd get a lead and get too comfortable and get passive out there and give the other team a chance to take the lead right back. Those early runs that the Knights got were definitely runs we gave them, they weren't runs they earned. We came out well and looked focused in the first inning, and then we just lost it in the second inning, and took a step back for us.

Physically, we're getting better, but mentally, we're still struggling a little bit."

Jacob Dunn, Brett Young and Brian Fields each had two hits, Dunn had an RBI, Young had a triple. Alan Lawler had an RBI single, and Sam Cisners also had a hit.

Mountain Home 7

Emmett Huskies 0

The Tigers got a one-hit shutout from Michael Hobgood at Emmett last Friday, as the Tigers shut out the Huskies 7-0.

Mountain Home scored three runs in the first inning, getting a lead-off double from David Wise, an RBI double from Brett Young, a sacrifice fly from Alan Lawler and an RBI ground-out by Jacob Dunn.

The Tigers added a run in the third, and scored two in the fifth on a two-run homer by Brett Young. Young ended the night with four RBIs and a double and a homer.

Jacob Dunn and David Wise both had doubles, and David Pacheco, Brett Grodi, Dillon Barresi and Sam Cisners also had hits.

Michael Hobgood had a no-hitter for 5 1/3 innings, settling for a one-hitter, striking out seven and walking three.

"I went out in the sixth inning trying not to think about it (the no-hitter) too much," said Michael Hobgood in a post-game radio interview. I got the first guy out and then just happened to hang a curve ball and the kid took it to left field for a hit, but my fastball was really working for me today. I had my curve ball with me -- it's been working for me earlier this season, and it was really clicking today, and I incorporated the fastball in with it too, and got some great defensive support behind me."

Wood River 25

Mountain Home 1

The Tigers were back on the road Saturday, traveling to Hailey to face the Wood River Wolverines in non-conference action. The Tigers threw four pitchers at the Wolverines, who scored 15 runs in the first inning, on their way to a five inning lopsided win.

Mountain Home's lone run came in the third inning, as Brian Fields singled in Dillon Barresi. "It was really upsetting to see how we could go from playing such a good game on Friday at Emmett to a game like this the next day," said Coach DeVore of the Wood River game.

David Wise, Dillon Barresi, Brett Young, David Pacheco and Brian Fields had hits for Mountain Home.

The Tigers were home against Glenns Ferry on Monday, hosted Vallivue in conference play yesterday (Tuesday), and travel to Kuna on Friday to start through the second time around against conference foes.
