Semi-pro team schedules tryouts

Wednesday, December 10, 2003

The Mountain Home Mauraders, the new semi-pro football team for Mountain Home, will join the Rocky Mountain Football League before the end of the year and will hold tryouts for the 50-plus positions on the team in mid-January.

Participation is open to anyone 18 years of age or older. No experience is required.

Four weeks of tryouts will begin on Jan. 17 at Eastside Park, where the team currently anticipates playing its home games, said Kenon Coats, general manager of the team. Registration will be held the first day. A $20 fee will be charged to try out, "so that we know that they're serious," and in order to pay for jerseys, Coats said. The team's new jerseys will be similar to those of the Denver Broncos, he said.

"We need at least 50 players, but the more the merrier."

Coats said the tryouts, which will take several days each of the four weeks, will not be in pads. "We won't pad up until regular training begins."

Pre-season games will begin in March with the regular season of 8 to 10 games running May through July.
