Lady Tigers hosting district volleyball

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers hope to put their ups and downs of the regular season aside as they host the District III 4A Volleyball Tourney this week.

The Lady Tigers closed out their regular season schedule with losses last week.

Vallivue 25, 25, 25

Mountain Home 12, 21, 14

The Lady Tigers honored eight seniors for Senior Night last Tuesday in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium, while losing to Vallivue, 3-0, in conference volleyball.

In game one, Mountain Home battled back to tie the game at 8-8, but then were outscored 17-4, as they lost, 12-25.

In game two, the Lady Tigers fell behind by 11, but battled back to within two, at 20-22, before losing 21-25.

Game three had six times early, before the Lady Falcons pulled away to win, 25-14.

"The girls played really well," said Mountain Home Lady Tiger volleyball coach Heather Cherry, after the game. "That second game, we came back after being down quite a bit, so we really did a good job."

On the night, Shelby Wickmark had six service points, two aces, six kills and a dig. Krista Gorman had four service points and four digs. Lauren Hicks had three service points and two digs. Kim Gulley had three service points, two aces, two kills and two blocks. Rachelle Garland had three service points.

Tiffany Robins had two kills and a block, Christa Stanton had three blocks, and Paula Doerr had two kills and a block.

Seniors honored before the match were Rachelle Garland, Tiffany Robins, Christa Stanton, Krista Gorman, Shelby Wickmark, Lauren Hicks, Kim Gulley and Amber Smith.

Kuna 25, 25, 25

Mountain Home 17, 22, 22

The Lady Tigers closed out their regular season schedule at Kuna last Thursday, losing in three close games, to finish 1-9 in conference play.

Shelby Wickmark had three aces, five kills, one block and two digs. Kim Gulley had three kills, three blocks and five digs. Christa Stanton had two kills and three blocks. Paula Doerr had one kill and three blocks. Krista Gorman had four digs, Paula Barrientos had four assists, Rachelle Garland had two assists, and Tiffany Robins had a block.

"We played so well," said Coach Cherry of the close match at Kuna. "A lot of spectators came up to me afterwards and said they thought that was the best they've seen us play."

The Lady Tigers host the District III 4A Volleyball Tournament, which started Monday night, with fourth seeded Vallivue facing fifth seeded Caldwell, and Mountain Home, the sixth seed, taking on number three seed Kuna.

Coach Cherry said she was happy to be facing Kuna again, after playing them so close at Kuna.

"It'll be good to see them again, since we played them so tough at their place on Thursday. Hopefully, the girls can come out and play well."

Last (Tuesday) night's action had number one seed Bishop Kelly facing Monday night's Vallivue-Caldwell winner, and Emmett, the number two seed, going against the Mountain Home-Kuna winner.

Action tonight (Wednesday), has the Vallivue-Caldwell loser facing the loser of last night's semi-final involving Emmett, at 5:30 p.m., and the Mountain Home-Kuna loser facing the loser of last night's semi-final involving Bishop Kelly at 7 p.m.

Tomorrow (Thursday) at 5:30 p.m., tonight's winners play for third place, and, at 7 p.m. is the championship match.

The top two teams automatically advance to next week's state tournament, while the third-place team travels on Saturday for a playoff game with the winner securing a state tourney berth.
