LaVerne was born on June 28, 1916, the only child of Hjalmer and Lempi Saari in Butte, Mont.

LaVerne graduated from Ironwood High School and later married Nels Simonson in 1936. Their only child, Gail was born in 1942. Nels died in 1954.

LaVerne later married Alcedis Gamache in Kalamazoo, Mich., in 1958, where they lived until retirement, when they moved back to Ironwood. Alcedis died in 1987.

LaVerne enjoyed being a homemaker, her family said. She loved doing all sorts of handiwork and crafts, and she spent hours sewing.

In 1998, LaVerne moved to Mountain Home to be near her daughter, Gail and family.

LaVerne is survived by: her daughter Gail Best and son-in-law Donald, and one granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to the Elmore County Extrication Unit, c/o Alan Roberts, 1640 Sunset Strip, Mountain Home, ID 83647.
