The Mountain Home Tiger cross country team came in 12th out of 17 teams competing in the boys competition at the annual Twin Falls Classic cross country race last Thursday at Canyon Springs Golf Course in Twin Falls.

Hillcrest of Idaho Falls won the meet, followed closely by Highland of Pocatello. Mountain Home was 12th, just four points behind Idaho City, and 16 points behind 10th place finisher Pocatello.

"That's the best that Mountain Home has run as a team since I've been coaching them," said Tiger cross country coach James Gilbert.

"They did a great job. I think after that meet, the kids now know how important it is to run as a team. They ran real well, and that should give them a lot of confidence coming off that meet."

Alvaro Salas led the Tigers, finishing 40th. Brandon Sloan was 55th, Daniel Kaiser came in 64th, Tim Witmarsh, 67th, and Scott Riley was 73rd.

Mountain Home had two runners running in the girls competition. Bethany Glidden finished 100th, and Cathy Gilbert came in 139th.

The Tigers were at the Crosby Invitational at Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario, Oregon yesterday (Tuesday), and host the Mountain Home Invitational on Oct. 17.

Coach Gilbert hopes for more improvement from his harriers.

"If we can get our three, four and five guys all running under 20 minutes, we should be able move up more in the team standings."
