Boys soccer beats Emmett

Mountain Home experienced all facets of the game last week, experiencing a tie, a win and a loss in a busy week of boys soccer.

The Caldwell Cougars scored on a penalty kick in the last seven minutes to come away with a tie.

Mountain Home scored on a goal by Chris Ouellette, with an assist by Marcus Santistevon. Mitch Thomas had four saves on goal for the Tigers.

Mountain Home Tiger head boys soccer coach Hugo Hurtado said it was a tough match.

"They came back in the last few minutes and tied us. That's a hard one to take, but we're getting better, and that's the main thing. It should give us some confidence being at home for a while now. We've been on the road for like five, so that should be good for us."

Emmett 0

The Tigers shut out Emmett last Thursday at Eastside Park, getting goals from Brian Weiss and Stephen Reinschmidt. Brady Rector had an assist on the Weiss goal, and Chris Ouellette assisted on the Reinschmidt goal. Mitch Thomas had eight saves on goal for the Tigers.

"We finally played up to our potential," said a happy Coach Hurtado after the match. "I think that was our best game so far this season. We had a great team effort. Hopefully it can continue."

With the win, the Tigers improved to 2-1-1 in conference and 3-5-1 overall.

The Tigers battled Payette tough Saturday afternoon in Payette. A penalty kick by the Pirates made it past Tiger goalkeeper Mitch Thomas for the only score of the day with about 10 minutes left in the contest. On the day, Thomas had six saves.

"It was a tough one to lose, but we played them much better than we did the first time around," said Tiger boys assistant soccer coach Jose Lopez. "They beat us 5-0 earlier in the season."

The Tiger boys hosted Kuna yesterday (Tuesday) and host Jerome tomorrow (Thursday). Their final home match of the season with be Oct. 7 at Eastside Park against Vallivue.
