The Mountain Home Tiger cross country team finished fifth at the Jack Rabbit Fun Run at Vale, Ore., last Friday.

Vale won the meet, followed by LaGrande and Weiser. Ontario was fourth, with the Tigers just two points behind them. There were six teams competing.

Alvaro Salas, running in just his second meet this season, had his best effort of the season, finishing 10th. Brandon Sloan came in 16th. Tim Whitmarsh finished 25th, with Lee Pierce and Daniel Kaiser coming in at 27th and 28th.

"I was really pretty happy with the guys," said Tiger cross country coach James Gilbert. "Alvaro (Salas) ran the best he's run in a year, I think. We were just two points out of fourth place, so overall, I thought it was a great effort for everybody."

Cathy Gilbert was Mountain Home's lone entrant in the girls competition at Vale. She finished 36th. Gilbert, who plays on the girls soccer team, wanted to run cross country, too.

"For her first go-round with it, she did well," said Coach Gilbert. "I was happy with her first effort."

The Tigers run at the Twin Falls Invitational tomorrow (Thursday). Gilbert said he is looking forward to the meet.

"We'll see a few teams from out of the area there, so that will be nice, and I'm looking for my three, four, five guys to start moving up into the middle of the pack a little more."
