Tigers open season against Bruins

Wednesday, September 3, 2003

With Saturday's Jamboree to build on, the Mountain Home Tigers open their 2003 football season Friday night at home against the Twin Falls Bruins.

The Tigers started off the Saturday morning Y.E.A. Jamboree against the Boise Braves, holding the 5A Braves to just one score in their 15 minutes of offense, while scoring three times during their offensive plays.

Skyview then went against Boise, scoring five times to the Braves' two.

Mountain Home closed out the jamboree against Skyview, and managed two scores while holding the Hawks to just one.

All in all, Tiger head football coach Tony Kerfoot came away happy from the morning session.

"I'm pretty pleased," said the second-year Tiger head coach.

"I thought we had a few mistakes and breakdowns, but I think it's a number that if we can knock down a few of those mistakes, I think we'll be playing pretty good football.

"I was real happy with the kids anyway. I thought we executed pretty well offensively, and we kind of ran a pretty complicated scheme, so I was pleased offensively.

"Defensively, we had a couple defensive breakdowns that we have to make sure we eliminate, but overall, I'm pretty pleased."

The Tigers open at home Friday night against a Twin Falls team that opened its season last week with a 16-10 overtime win over Century last Friday night.

Kerfoot, who watched that Twin Falls-Century game, expects a battle from the Bruins Friday night.

"We went and watched Twin. They have one kid they gave it (the ball) to about 32 times, and they've got a receiver that's very good, so we have our work cut out. We'll have to play an extremely good ball game on our part. They're a very good team, so it's going to be a good test for the first game of the year."

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday night at Tiger Field.
