Lady Tigers open season Saturday

Wednesday, September 3, 2003

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers open their 2003 volleyball season Saturday at the Twin Falls Invitational Volleyball Tournament.

Despite a season that saw the Lady Tigers go winless in regular season and district matches last year, second-year coach Heather Cherry said they had a good turnout for volleyball this year.

"It looks good. We had the 9th- through 12th-grade girls try out together, and we ended up with 10 girls on the freshman team and nine on the sophomore and JV teams, and 10 on the varsity team -- seven seniors and three juniors, and we've definitely got some talent.

"What we have is a lot of desire and excitement to play, and we're really excited about the season. I think we're going to be competitive this year."

Saturday's Twin Falls Tourney gives Mountain Home a look at teams from all across the state, including some from the SIC 4A.

"We'll probably see four or five of our league teams there, and it will be good to just have a day where they're playing and nothing major is on the line and they're playing all out so they can see what they can do."

The Lady Tigers are on the road next week, traveling to Minico on Sept. 9 for a tri-match with Minico and Burley, and to Wood River on Sept. 11.

Mountain Home opens its SIC 4A conference schedule in the team's home opener against Caldwell on Sept. 16 in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium.
