La Von Humpherys, 72

LaVon Terril Humpherys, 72, a former Glenns Ferry resident and current resident of Winchester Bay, Ore., formerly of Rowena, died at a Reedsport hospital on Friday, May 16, 2003.

He was born June 2, 1930, in Shelley, Idaho, to Orren and Althea Humpherys. He grew up, and graduated from high school, in Glenns Ferry.

He married JoAnn Stillwell in Winamucca, Nev., on July 8, 1950, while working for the Union Pacific Railroad. They traveled with the railroad until settling in The Dalles, Ore., area in 1958, where they raised five children.

He was employed by Harvey Aluminum from 1958 until retiring and moving to Winchester Bay in 1990.

LaVon enjoyed the outdoors, was an avid gardener, liked to hunt, fish, camp, and loved being with his family.

He is survived by: his wife, JoAnn, of Winchester Bay; his children and their spouses, Lavilla and David Clarish of Yakima, Wash., Terry and Vickie Humpherys of Dorena, Ore., Deland and Dottie Humpherys of Hershey, Neb., Marlene Byrd of Lingle, Wyo., and Wanda and Tom Gilman of Eugene, Ore.; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Nelda Flock of Hammett, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, Leon and a grandson, Deland Jay.

A celebration of life will be held at Half Moon Bay in Winchester Bay, Ore., June 2, 2003 at 2 p.m.
