Pedestrial killed on Airbase Road

Idaho State Police continue to investigate the death of Tawni Burkett, 38, of Mountain Home, Sunday evening.

Burkett was struck by a vehicle as she stood in the traffic lane of Airbase Road. She died at the scene. Officers are waiting for the results of toxicology tests for the victim. James Lachepelle, 50, Marquette, Mich., was eastbound near milepost 9 when the accident occurred at 7:55 p.m. on Nov. 17.

While no one in the vehicle was injured, Lachepelle was transported to Mountain Home Air Force Base Hospital. The fatality was the second incident involving pedestrians and vehicles on Airbase Road in the past week.

On Wednesday, Nov. 13, Joann Chavez, Mountain Home, stopped at the intersection of S. 5th West Street at Airbase Road. The driver was motioned by the flagger to proceed and Chavez began making a left-hand turn, crossing through the intersection, striking Cher Coulter, Donnelly, a flagger who was approximately in the sidewalk area in the middle lane of the east side of the intersection.

The pedestrian was knocked back approximately 48 feet by the impact.

Coulter was transported to Elmore Medical Center Hospital by ambulance.
